”The Unabomber manifesto” is a performance piece based on the true story of The Unabomber – Ted Kaczinsky who some years ago set USA in fear by sending anonymous bombs to people. He also wrote a long manifest about the danger with industrial evolution and what harm it might do to the planet.
Composers Lars Indrek Hansson, Tony Blomdahl and DanTommi Hildén and myself built a visual and musical performance around this manifest and we called the performance ”Unabom”.
World premiere in Capitol,Stockholm 19th of february 2011.Unabom was also performed during the Geiger festival in Gothenburg 26/2.

In the spring of 2009 I got a phone call from Petter Sundkvist, conductor and artistic leader of Norrbotten Neo. First of all he asked me if I would like to sing ”Infinito Nero” there in a production autumn 2010. Of course I did! I few weeks after that he called me again and told me they had decided to give it as a double bill with ”Pierrot Lunaire”, and since I knew both pieces so well – would I like to direct them? To my own big surprise I heard myself say that I would love to do that….
I did regret that several times through the year of preparation, but thanks to the lovely and brave artist Sofia Jernberg who performed Pierrot, and the briljant designer Svante Grogarn, beautiful work by costume designer Ina G Andersson, Petter and the fantastic Neo and all support from Tomas Isacsson and Piteå Chamber Opera we made a performance to be really proud of!
Soloists: Sofia Jernberg and Monica Danielson Conductor: Petter Sundkvist Orchestra: Norrbotten Neo Set and light designer: Svante Grogarn Costume: Ina G Andersson Director: Monica Danielson Translation: Monica Danielson Production: Piteå Chamber Opera
Premiere in Piteå 16/10 2010

For every artist with interest in contemporary music, John Cage is a very important composer. He didn’t write much opera music, but one pice that he wrote in the end of his career is the ”Europeras”. Me and MusikTeaterVerket have for quite some time had the performance ”Europera 3&4” prepared, but we had difficulties in finding the right stage for the production. But after a successful meeting with Staffan Rydén (principal of Gothenburg Academy of Music and Drama) and the dedicated Birgitta Winnberg (artistic leader of Gothenburg Dance- and Theatre festival) we found the perfect match!
At Artisten, Gothenburg 26/8 2010 we were proud to present the Swedish premiere of John Cage’s ”Europera 3 & 4”!
Soloists: Monica Danielson,Karl Peter Eriksson, Nina Ewald, Marie-Louise Granström, Jan Kyhle, Olof Söderberg, Erika Tordéus,Cecilia Vallinder.

In april of 2010 I went together with the pianist Jonas Olsson and producer Max Käck from ensemble Gageego to the contemporary festival ”Two days & nights”in Odessa to perform music by Cage, Wallin, Rehnquist, Ligety and Aperghis.
A beautiful city to visit and a very nice festival audience who seemed to really like our concert!
The first question we got at the airport was ”Do you want some vodka?”, and well, we didn´t at that time but we all brought big bottles home to Sweden…

The Bear, based on Tjechovs play is the latest production of MusikTeaterVerket and I sang the part of the widow Popova as well as producing the opera.
The other two soloists where Karl-Peter Eriksson in the part of The Bear Smirnov and Torgny Sporsén played the part of the servant Luka. Mattias Ermedahl directed the piece to a fun and heartwarming performance and Svante Grogarn transformed the beautiful Bio Roy to a 18th century Russion salon.
Gothenburg Chamber Soloists with Joakim Kallhed piano, Christian Berg cello and Kristina Olsson flute played Waltons beautiful music in a new arrangement by Martin Skafte.

When I was still an opera student I had the privilege of working with Lars Johan Werle – a great composer and a lovely person!
At that time we worked with the chamber opera ”Hercules”, and one day after a performance he took me aside and handed me a score with the words:
”I would really like you to perform this opera sometime!”
What he gave me was the score for the opera ”Kvinnogräl”. I´ve had it in my library since then, and now – in 2009 – I’ll finally get the opportunity to perform it in Vara Concert Hall and in Atalante.
Thank you for the music Lars Johan!

Schönbergs Pierrot Lunaire is one of the pieces that I enjoy performing the most, and I´ve also sung it a lot of times.
The latest performance of it was in Atalante (one of my favourite theaters!) in January this year together with conductor Jerker Johansson with whom I´ve sung Pierrot on several occasions.
About 10 years ago we did an unforgettable tour of Norway with a quite challenging concert program where I first sang Boulez ”Le Marteau sans Maître” and then Pierrot Lunaire.
I was definitely younger then…
Next year I will not sing but direct Pierrot for Norrbotten NEO and the artist Sofia Jernberg. A new challenge which I’m really excited about!

”The eminent mezzo Monica Danielson has an impressive capacity to combine pertinence and dark undercurrents with poetic feeling. Very good!” GP

When Duo EGO was established in 2001 by myself and my friend Per Sjögren, percussionist, we had just been on tour with ensemble Gageego. An absolutely lovely bunch of people but we were really fed up with being so many people trying to agree on when to eat, waiting at the bus for latecomers, picking up passports which had been left behind etc…
So, we went to our favourite pub, had a beer and decided that we would start Duo EGO – no extras!
In the beginning it was not very easy to find repertoire for voice and percussion, but as the years have gone by we can now proudly present more than one full concert program with repertoire composed for us!
Even more impressive – a small opera of our own: ”Vad man måste” by Paula af Malmborg Ward. A comic mini-opera which in 25 minutes deals with immigration issues, painted wooden horses and several different ways of eating a banana split!
”It’s horrifying and funny and with Malmborg-Ward´s special timing not a second too long!” ” …fantastic a capella song by Danielson…” Expressen
”This is how you create a success!” BT
